The Turkish Embassy in Athens has the pleasure to announce the public lecture entitled “History in Tune: The Ottoman Music Tradition”

Assoc. Prof. Okan Murat Öztürk from Başkent University (Ankara), will give the lecture on “Describing any Melody: Makam Knowledge in the Ottoman Musical Writings” while Panagiotis Poulos from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, will present his lecture entitled “Ottoman Song-text Collections: An Intercommunity Perspective”. The lectures will be presented in a way that will capture the interest of wider public and will be followed by a discussion session in which the guests will find the opportunity to pose questions.

The Lecture is sponsored by the Turkish Embassy in Athens and will be held at Gennadius Library, Gotsen Hall, Anapiron Polemou St. No:9 on 29 November 2016 Tuesday, at 19:00. A cocktail will be given after the lecture.

The Lecture is the third and the last one organised in the context of the three-part public lecture series entitled “Glimpses of the Past in the Cultural Expressions of Greece and Turkey”.

Anyone who has an interest in the subject may attend the lecture which will be held in English.
